TIB-RWTH workshop on Protein Engineering and Biocatalysis for Sustainable Biomanufacturing

04/10/2022

We are excited to have our first successful TIB-RWTH workshop on Protein Engineering and Biocatalysis for Sustainable Biomanufacturing (TIB-RWTH Joint Center of Biotechnology). The mission of this workshop is to foster the convergence of protein engineering and biocatalysis to guide the scientists to efficiently engineer enzymes for different properties (e.g., selectivity, thermostability, organic solvent tolerance, ILs tolerance) in order to achieve a more sustainable circular economy and promote the collaboration between RWTH and TIB.

Prestigious scientists, leading experts in the fields from RWTH (Ulrich Schwaneberg, Lothar Elling, Maria Fyta, Lars Lauterbach, Mehdi D. Davari, Felix Jakob, Sebastian Apelt) and TIB (Leilei Zhu, Dunming Zhu, Qinhong Wang,Yiheng Zhang, Zhoutong Sun, Xiang Sheng, Xuewen Zhang) presented their work covering KnowVolution/CompassR guided protein engineering strategies, computational modeling of enzymes/nanopores, computational-assisted protein engineering, enzymatic synthesis of high value chemicals, in vitro biomanufacturing based on synthetic enzymatic biosystems. More than 60 participants joined this workshop and coworkers from our group (Ulrich Schwaneberg, Dr. Nurşen Sözer, Dr. Yu Ji, Felix Jakob) were involved in the preparation and organization of this workshop, chairing sessions, giving talks, presenting their research and introduction of Bio4MatPro project.

We look forward to collaborating with a great team of experts from RWTH and TIB in order to make sustainable biomanufacturing a reality within the framework of the RWTH-TIB Center!
