SEPAWA Award 2019 Dr. Martin Thiele
Dr. Martin Thiele receives the SEPAWA e.V. Award 2019 in the category "Outstanding Doctoral Thesis". The prize was awarded to Dr. Thiele on October 24th during the European Detergent Conference at the SEPAWA Congress (https://sepawa-congress.de/). Dr. Martin Thiele receives 3000 Euro award as a tribute to his dissertation, that was written at the Chair of Biotechnology of RWTH Aachen University and titled: „Boosting the performance of a protease with polymers and surfactants“.
The SEPAWA e.V. (Association of soap, perfume, cosmetics and detergent experts) wants to to promote excellent young scientists in their field by this award. The decision on the award winners is made by an independent and neutral expert jury consisting of designated members of the scientific advisory board and the board of SEPAWA.
Dr. Thiele was a member of the interdisciplinary team at the Henkel Innovation Campus for Advanced and Sustainable Technologies (HICAST) of RWTH Aachen University. The goal of HICAST is a joint research and development of new high-performance and resource-saving ingredients for detergents and cleaners of the future. Dr. Thiele studied the molecular interactions of proteases with surfactants and polymers used in detergents in his doctoral thesis. He then used the knowledge gained about the importance of calcium ions in the formation of supramolecular complexes as reactors for the targeted enzymatic performance improvement of proteases. His work has been patented and published in high-ranking scientific journals.
