CSC fellowships
The Chair of Biotechnology at RWTH Aachen University (Germany) welcomes applications of PhD fellows who intend to apply for CSC fellowships for molecular biotechnologists, chemists, computational scientists and bioengineers.
RWTH Aachen University is one of the most famous Technical Universities in Europe and a member of the TU9 group. TU9 is the alliance of leading Institutes of Technology in Germany ( https://www.tu9.de/en/index.php).
Professor Ulrich Schwaneberg (the Chair of Biotechnology at the RWTH Aachen University in Germany and member of the board directors at the DWI-Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials) welcomes applications of candidates that intend to apply for CSC fellowships.

Haiyang, Lilin, Liang and Yu are discussing in our social room.
Our ideal candidates
We are supporting students of chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering and biotechnology or relevant majors at
- M.Sc. level applying for 3- 4 year placements as PhD students.
- PhD students applying for 1-2 year placements within “Sandwich” Doctoral Degree Training.
Applicants should provide an IELTS certificate with a score of 6.0 or above.
Our expertise
The Schwaneberg group is a world leader in protein engineering (26 patents, mainly with industrial partners like BASF, DSM, Evonik, Roche, Henkel, and BRAIN; 4 engineered enzymes in industrial use; >190 publications). Furthermore, Professor Schwaneberg has been appointed to the board of directors in the Bioeconomy Science Center to advance and to focus the German state of North-Rhine Westphalia`s research efforts in the area of bioeconomy, servers as speaker of the industry lab HICAST (Henkel Innovation Campus for Advanced and Sustainable Technologies; ~5 Mio€ direct industry funding) at RWTH Aachen University, received the BMBF award for the next generation of biotechnological processes in 2016, and the innovation award of the BioRegions of Germany in 2018.
Our research fields include integrated protein engineering (diversity generation, high-throughput screening and computer-assisted modelling), biocatalysis (in cascade reactions, in biohybrid systems, in whole cell systems and in organic solvents), chiral protein membranes and surface functionalization with peptide-based adhesion promotors (i.e. for plant health).
In 2018, Professor Schwaneberg also was appointed as Distinguished International Supervisor for assistant professor Dr. Hao Cao and as Distinguished Professor by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
