The 14th International Symposium on Biocatalysis and Biotransformations -BIOTRANS 2019- took place from 7th to 11th July in Groningen, Netherlands. Invited lecturers including experimentalists and theoreticians, from both academia and industry, were present this year. Prof. Dr. Frances Arnold, Nobel Prize Winner Chemistry in 2018, was among the keynote speakers. The conference covered a broad range of topics including enzyme discovery and engineering, artificial enzymes and de-novo enzyme design, systems (bio)technology & synthetic biology, biocatalytic cascade reactions, chemoenzymatic synthesis strategies, and industrial biocatalysis. The Schwaneberg lab was represented by Stefanie Brands, Francisca Contreras Leiva, Kevin Herrmann, Dr. Belen Infanzon and Dr. Mehdi D. Davari. The next BIOTRANS Symposium will take place in 2021 in La Rochelle, France.
